Dry Eye Syndrome occurs when your eyes don’t make enough tears, or when your tears dry out too quickly.
A common reason for this is that the oil glands in your eyelids (Meibomium glands) are blocked or not functioning correctly. These glands make natural oils that stop your tears from drying too fast.
When they’re blocked, it can cause:
– Unstable tear film (your tears don’t spread evenly across the eye).
– Rapid tear evaporation (your tears dry up too quickly).
- Eye discomfort and irritation.
Treatment options include artificial tears, warm compresses, lid cleansing and punctual plugs, amongst others. The newest and most effective treatment for dry eye syndrome is known as IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy.
IPL treatment can be transformative and often provides a significant improvement for those with dry eye symptoms. At Spybey’s, we offer a comprehensive dry eye assessment using state of the art technology to better understand the cause of your dry eyes. We can also assess your suitability for IPL treatment.
We are passionate about eye health and dedicated to providing a personalised experience that puts your vision needs first.
We recommend having an eye test every two years. However, if you’re experiencing any changes in your vision or have been advised by your optometrist, you may need to come in more frequently.
Please bring any current glasses or contact lenses, a list of medications you’re taking, and your NHS or insurance details if applicable. If it’s your first visit, any previous prescriptions or medical history can be helpful.
